Tirana, the bustling capital of Albania, is set to host an architectural marvel. The Hora Vertikale, a mixed-use development designed by Portuguese studio OODA, is a 140-meter-tall skyscraper featuring a distinctive stacked-cube design. Scheduled to begin construction in spring, this innovative project aims to integrate community spaces with sustainable architecture.
Key Features of Hora Vertikale
Unique Cube Composition
- Composed of 13 staggered cubes arranged across six vertical levels.
- Each cube measures 22.5 meters by 22.5 meters and consists of seven stories, reflecting Tirana's typical building height.
- The design blends geometric precision with asymmetry, creating a visually dynamic structure from every angle.
Functional Diversity
The building incorporates:
- Residential spaces include apartments and penthouses.
- Public amenities such as a park and gathering areas.
- Commercial units to support local businesses.
- Green spaces throughout to enhance the urban environment.
Sustainability Focus
- Locally sourced materials reduce transportation emissions and boost the regional economy.
- The surrounding green areas act as a buffer between the city and the building, supporting biodiversity.
The Design Philosophy
OODA describes Hora Vertikale as a “vertical village”, reflecting Tirana’s urban and cultural diversity. The cubes’ designs vary, with some featuring angular balconies and protruding elements, while others employ traditional gridded facades. This blend of modern and traditional influences mirrors Albania’s evolving architectural landscape.
Integration with the Community
- The structure's ground-level park connects seamlessly with neighboring streets, promoting accessibility.
- Its multifunctional design fosters engagement between residents, businesses, and visitors.
Impact on Tirana
The skyscraper is poised to become a landmark for the city, showcasing innovative urban design while addressing housing and environmental needs. Its strategic design also emphasizes visual impact, offering stunning perspectives from both a distance and up close.
Conclusion
Hora Vertikale is more than a building; it is a symbol of Tirana’s ambition to balance urban growth with sustainability. By integrating modern architecture with community-focused design, it sets a precedent for future developments in Albania and beyond. @via ATELIER 4.
